  • Safety Supervision: Ensure safety and security by providing daily safety checks, setting lighting and removing hazardous items to prevent falls and injuries
  • Personal Care: Bathing, dressing, oral hygiene, skin care, grooming, toileting, incontinence care
  • Meal Preparation: Plan meal routine, prepare meals (including specialized dietary restrictions or preferences), proper food storage, serving of meals, nutritional monitoring

Tips for Avoiding Falls

  • USE NIGHTLIGHTS: make sure you have adequate lighting and there are no dark areas along the floor.
  • AVOID CLUTTER: make sure there are clear walking paths throughout your house.
  • LEVEL WALKING SURFACES: remove throw rugs, make sure all carpet edged are tacked down and do not layer carpets. Keep sidewalks, driveways and walkways repaired so they are smooth and even.
  • EQUIP YOUR BATHROOM: use rubber mats in the bathtub and shower. Install grab bars in the bathtub or shower and by the toilet or install a raised toilet seat.
  • AVOID STEPSTOOLS and LADDERS: ask someone else to perform climbing chores.
  • GET the RIGHT FOOTWEAR: wear shoes with non-skid soles.

Conditions That May Cause Falls:

  • Foot pain or corns
  • Dizziness, weakness and unsteadiness on your feet
  • Disturbances in hearing or vision
  • Feelings of confusion
  • Weight Loss
  • Arthritis or other joint stiffness

You May Be Headed For a Fall If You:

  • Have difficulty keeping balance walking on different surfaces such as from tile to carpet.
  • Have a fear of falling or stumbling

  • Have a feeling of motion, spinning to falling when moving your head quickly or changing your position such as when getting in and out of bed.

  • Have a feeling you are drifting or being pulled to one side when walking

  • Have a sense of unsteadiness or feeling like you are not surefooted

  • Take medication for two or more of the following diseases: heart disease, hypertension, arthritis and depression.

  • Have experienced a stroke or other neurological problems that has affected your balance.

  • Use a walker, cane or wheelchair or need assistance to get around.
